A Suite Before the Cues
Before composing the individual cues, Masashi Hasegawa first wrote a single suite for the production. It established the musical arc, emotional direction, and sense of space that the stage work would inhabit. The suite became the foundation from which the later pieces could develop.
One Musical World
The intention was not to make every cue sound alike. It was to let music for different scenes feel as though it belonged to the same world. By defining that world first, each cue could change freely while retaining a shared sense of direction.
From Suite to Scene
On Memory was used in promotional film material and adapted for scenes within the stage production. Rather than remaining fixed as one piece, the music changed its form in response to the work.
Creative Collaboration
Director Naotaka Hiratsuka invited Masashi Hasegawa to create the music for the production.
The collaboration began with a shared understanding that music should not simply accompany a scene, but listen to what remains unspoken within it.
The project became the beginning of an ongoing creative relationship built on trust.
