The Door
Inside UMAI on Newbury Street, a black door opens into a room with only five seats.
The threshold is part of the work: the experience begins before the bowl arrives.
A Five-Seat Theater
The room was designed not only as a place to eat, but as a theater built around a bowl of ramen.
Wall projection, individual screens, light, sound, and service share the same timeline.
Designing Time
Welcome. Countdown. Presentation. Dining. End credits.
Each stage is treated as part of one temporal composition. The music does not score every screen independently; it was composed to remain coherent across the entire sequence.
One Score Across the Room
The videos inside the Theater Box were intentionally created with little or no additional music.
The room already carries a clearly present score, and adding a separate soundtrack to each visual would have divided the experience into competing layers.
Instead, one continuous musical world holds the space together. The score was composed with the full Box experience in mind, allowing projection, countdown, service, and dining to unfold within the same sonic atmosphere.
Choosing where not to place music was part of the composition.
Beyond the Room
The same creative language extends to the website, social media, visual communication, and the way guests encounter the story before and after a visit.
The brand is treated as one continuous experience rather than a collection of separate outputs.
